A new Sport England initiative, ‘Sport Unlimited’ has made money available to Active Ryedale to extend sporting activities for children between 5 and 19 years old. This is part of the additional £100 million announced in July by the Prime Minister for youth sport, which aims to increase take-up in physical activity and to sustain participation in active lifestyles. Through this initiative the government are hoping to boost participation in sport and physical activity to 5 hours a week by encouraging young people to do more outside school hours.
Active Ryedale (formerly known as Ryedale Sport & Active Recreation Executive) the local community sports network welcome this new funding stream and see it as a good opportunity for local community groups, sporting groups and clubs, coaches and other individuals to apply for funding to extend the provision of sporting activities for young people. Funding is available for 10-week programs to remove initial barriers, which restrict both providers in offering and individuals participating in additional physical activity opportunities. Chris Chatten Community Projects Officer (Sport & Recreation) Ryedale District Council said, “We would like to encourage applications from all sorts of activity providers. It is easy to apply and your effort could help boost the numbers of young people taking part in sport and physical activity in Ryedale.” The activities funded may be new or already in place within Ryedale and funds can target both young people who are active as well as those who are inactive outside school. Unfortunately, timescales for finalising the program for April to July 2009 delivery are very short and application forms must be submitted to Chris Chatten by 16th January 2009 If you would like a Sport Unlimited Funding application form or any further information regarding the funding stream or the role of Active Ryedale please contact Chris Chatten, Community Projects Officer (Sport & Recreation), Ryedale District Council on tel: 01653 600666 or email Chris Chatten. |
